Gym revisited

Kudos to the Mgr over at Gold's Gym. Apparently, he left me a message on Sunday (and our system failed to notify me - doh!). He's doing good by me. Says the weekend kid didn't realize I wanted to work out that day, or I could have (and I'm not sure how the kid missed that intention - I was dressed for it, was all annoyed and asked 'you can't even give me a free trial or anything?' and he didn't point out the free day pass he handed to me - I didn't know it was there til I turned it over in the car. But no, I didn't actually tell him that I had wanted to work out right then. Not in those words.

At any rate - the Mgr gave me a good deal, and was sorry to hear of my troubles ;o) I'm heading over there tonight to meet him and sign up - maybe this will jumpstart losing that Holly weight!!!

No Gym For ME!

So Saturday before we had to get going, I was ready! So I took the extra time and popped over to our local Curves. Wait! What's this? It's taken me *so* long to get back here, that they aren't there anymore! Sure enough - the sign is still on the window, but no hours, the place is empty and locked up tight. Apparently, for months now. So the closest is Acton or Concord. Blech. If it's not in my backyard I won't make it there.

And I have a brainstorm - I'll just pop on over to Gold's Gym, which is NEXT DOOR to the daycare center. Incredibly convenient - I can pop in just before getting Holly, work out, then swing through the center via the back door, get Holly and head on out for the boys. Perfect solution.

So I pop over and wander in. Couple of folks on some equipment, but 90% empty. Nice. The way I like it. And all nice and shiney new! So I ask the kid at the counter - can you give me prices? I'd like to join. He says - no. That's all with the membership manager and he doesn't come in on weekends. Picture me with a completely blank look - then very perplexed. So - I can't do anything? I can't join on the weekend? "No." Can I get a free trial day or something? "No". Huh. I stared at him a full 30 seconds trying to figure out what person missed this part in Customer Service 101. But he CAN give me the card for the Mgr, and he CAN leave a message for him to call me on Monday. Oh. Thanks. Yeah let's do that. Of course I was in a fog while my brain tried to figure out why someone would set it up so that you TURN AWAY customers just because they come out on the weekend. I don't have time to *talk* during the week. I need to get in, work out, get out! I can talk on the weekend. But apparently, not here.

So Mr. Mgr got a nice email from me explaining my experience. And I suggested he might want to empower his weekend folks with at least a price sheet, and maybe a small selection of equipment that they could offer up for a 20 minute trial. Sounded good to me :o) We'll see what Mr. Mgr has to say.

Funny enough - on my way out I turned over the card. It's printed on a FREE VIP ONE DAY PASS - it's just not authorized. Talk about adding insult to injury....

21 March

food, glorious food

Just for kicks I figured I'd document what I ate today:
breakfast: 1 serving Cream of Wheat, made with skim milk and splenda for sweetening (yum!)
coffee, with drop of skim milk

misc snacks:
banana, grapes, WW Smoothie shake thing - chocolate

Lunch:
A portabello mushroom heated with bbq sauce
Very small baby greens salad with fat free honey mustard dressing (very small because I'm not fond of salad)
Au Bon Pan's Old Fashioned Tomato Soup (yum!)
I was still hungry so I went back for the 2nd soup option today:
Au Bon Pan's Vegatable Beef Barley soup

Dinner: Mashed potatoes made with skim milk, water, a tiny bit of smart balance light margerine, added smart balance spray margerine and salt to them
Pork roast, peas, carrots and asparagus that had been in the slow cooker all day.

small glass of Wine - (Steven's contribution)

I excercised today, so I earned 2 activity points.
The dressing, the bbq sauce and the wine cost me from my points.. but with the 2 activity points, and very small amounts of eachI only used those 2 activity points and didn't dip into the 'bank' :o) Yay! We'll see how I manage to keep it up.

About Jen:

Welcome to my Blot! The result of a typo, but it fits me rather well.

I have no set agenda for my blot - it rambles wherever my brain takes me. Have a seat, grab some coffee or other beverage of choice - read what you like, ignore what you don't like :o)

We have a cat, two boys, a girl and two parents! My oldest was diagnosed with Asperger's but then later had that label dropped. He may or may not have been touched with some ADHD - join me while we learn more about this new and interesting facet to Kyle's Being...

We ventured into the world of cloth diapering with Holly in 2007 and it was not nearly as scary as I thought it would be - actually, it's only different from disposables in that I had to wash them - which is no big deal. Really!!! Ask me :o) I read that it takes 500 years (YEARS!!) for a disposable to decompose.. I guess if we just tossed the diaper out in the back yard it would break down quickly, but with 10 - 12 changes a day I think the neighbors might object to that method! So instead we wrap them up in little balls, put them in plastic and send them on to the waste management facility... where they are probably buried.... no oxygen... so they sit and sit and sit. Having contributed 2 boys worth of diapers to that process already, I figured I should make an attempt... have a look around at WildFlower Diapers to see how cute and fun cloth diapering can be!! Shannon is a wonderful person, and I have no problems sending business her way!! Holly has since learned to use the potty, but I do miss the cuteness of those dipes!!

I have refocused my attention on collecting coupons and saving in general. I will try to post periodically on what I've saved and how we're doing. We're also saving our loose change for our 'travel fund' - we'll be opening a Travel Savings Account in the near future, and I'll also post our deposits and balance there so you can play along at home :)
