03 December

Feeling accomplished.

Saturday, one of the tasks Steve acheived was to pick up more wood for the playroom->bedroom project. So yesterday I pulled apart everything we had done already (I know! But it was worth it) and rebuild the whole front wall of the closet.

I balanced the door in it just to give a better idea of what we'll get....

And the walls came down around us...

The playroom is almost completely torn out. Torn out? Can't say torn down, because the walls are still framed - they hold up the rooms above it. But the paneling is almost down - about 75% down. One short wall and one panel left. Have to move the TV for that and Steve needed a heave-ho break. The carpet and padding is up and out. The ceiling is down except for the long supports that run the length of the room. There are a few electrical cables that we need to think about when we put the wallboard up. These people did NOT hire anyone to do the work, that's a given. Not sure if we want to tackle rerouting the cables the right way (through the studs) or not. We have to think on this.

The remaining paneling will come down over the next couple of nights so that I can call the Junk guy ("Just call John, it will be Gone!") and have them take the pile of debris away before Kyle does something silly - like spinning and falling on it. Hmmm no link in my blog for that? Apparently, my blog started in October - Ky would have had his stitches in like August of '04.

At any rate - maybe we can get to The Place of All Good Things (AKA Home Depot or Lowes ) this weekend and pick up the 2x4's and other stuff. We shall see...

Playroom...

Since this pic was taken I have pried off most of the little cross boards (the boards that the paneling was nailed to). There are a few left because they are currently supporting the only usable light in the room...

Now we have to shuffle stuff around so we can get at the rest of the room...

Lookee Lookee what I made!!!

Yeah, yeah she's cute and all - but we all know we made *her*... It's the 'soaker' she's wearing that I'm talking about... My first knitting project - weeee!!! And it's night worthy.

Oh. That's right. Lots of the 4 of you out there might not know what a soaker is... so wool is super absorbant... and it's also got natural antibacterial qualities, and it doesn't wick like other fibers... so it makes a great diaper cover. I'm now working on a pair of longies for her for the cool weather... longies are just like soaker - but with legs. So they replace the diaper cover AND the jammy bottoms - or pants! Weee!!!

and yes, that's dinner still around her mouth :o) *oops*

About Jen:

Welcome to my Blot! The result of a typo, but it fits me rather well.

I have no set agenda for my blot - it rambles wherever my brain takes me. Have a seat, grab some coffee or other beverage of choice - read what you like, ignore what you don't like :o)

We have a cat, two boys, a girl and two parents! My oldest was diagnosed with Asperger's but then later had that label dropped. He may or may not have been touched with some ADHD - join me while we learn more about this new and interesting facet to Kyle's Being...

We ventured into the world of cloth diapering with Holly in 2007 and it was not nearly as scary as I thought it would be - actually, it's only different from disposables in that I had to wash them - which is no big deal. Really!!! Ask me :o) I read that it takes 500 years (YEARS!!) for a disposable to decompose.. I guess if we just tossed the diaper out in the back yard it would break down quickly, but with 10 - 12 changes a day I think the neighbors might object to that method! So instead we wrap them up in little balls, put them in plastic and send them on to the waste management facility... where they are probably buried.... no oxygen... so they sit and sit and sit. Having contributed 2 boys worth of diapers to that process already, I figured I should make an attempt... have a look around at WildFlower Diapers to see how cute and fun cloth diapering can be!! Shannon is a wonderful person, and I have no problems sending business her way!! Holly has since learned to use the potty, but I do miss the cuteness of those dipes!!

I have refocused my attention on collecting coupons and saving in general. I will try to post periodically on what I've saved and how we're doing. We're also saving our loose change for our 'travel fund' - we'll be opening a Travel Savings Account in the near future, and I'll also post our deposits and balance there so you can play along at home :)
